herbs

Fresh herbs are excellent additions to many dishes. They add color, freshness, flavor, and extra health benefits.

Why is it good for my body? Basil has anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties.Cilantro, or coriander, is rich in vitamin C, K, and protein. Mint has been traditionally used to calm digestive troubles and alleviate nausea.
Where does it come from? Basil is often used in Italian and Asian dishes, but is so versatile that it can be added to almost anything. Cilantro is a staple in dishes from Mexico and central America, but is used worldwide in many cuisines. Mint has a strong flavor, but can be used in both sweet and savory applications.
How do I store and handle it? To store fresh herbs at home, trim the botton of the stems, make sure leaves are dry, partially fill a jar or glass with water and place stem ends into the water. If storing in the refrigerator, cover the tops loosley with a palstic bag.
What are ways to eat it? You will find lots of recipes on doctoryum.org that call for fresh herbs. Try our Pineapple Power Salad that features mint and cilantro together!
